With all round development, energy continues to grow and outstrip supply. It is therefore, imperative to implement each and every possible energy conservation measure to bridge the energy gap. Judicious and strategic energy planning including use of energy efficient devices and implementing energy saving measures not only saves money but also increases the reliability and efficiency of the whole system. In addition, it has positive impact on the economy.
Gone are the days when wastage of energy was taken as a routine of the day and fossil fuels were considered as the never-ending source of energy. There is now a growing realization that every drop of fuel saved is equivalent amount of energy produced.
Although the slogan-“Save energy” is much talked about and written about, the sad fact of the matter is that it is more or less confined to speeches or buried in documents, books and pamphlets. Considerable amount of energy is wasted in industrial, commercial, domestic and other sectors only because of mere ignorance and inaction. In many cases devices are badly maintained on the pretext of high maintenance cost.
BUT CAN WE AFFORD TO IGNORE SUCH MISTAKES ANY MORE?
The answer is resounding NO. For quite some time the Government of India has been trying to tackle the energy crisis by promoting conservation of energy and to advocate its efficient use in various sectors of our economy. The Govt. also realized the need for certain statuatory measures and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) was established as a statutory body.
Central Govt., the State Governments and Bureau has been vested upon certain power to enforce the energy conservation measures. After much deliberation the Energy Conservation Act was passed in the parliament in 2001. It is now the duty of everybody to contribute to saving energy wherever possible.
Our aim it to include the idea of energy conservation and educate the presentgeneration about the energy crisis. However, much more needs to be also done at implementation level. Our motto is thus not only to spread the ideas but also to implement the ideas practically and helps solve the problems.
